You can make a difference... join us in our COMACO efforts
Lundazi National Forest supports a vital part of Luangwa Valley's watershed. An unhealthy watershed translates into extreme fluctuations of waterflow in the Luangwa River and increased stress to wildlife populations. Growing pressures from commercial farming of certain pesticide-dependent crops threaten this watershed. The image below shows this problem clearly. The challenge is to develop economic alternatives that promote better watershed management. COMACO is helping find a solution through a large scale enterprise of wild honey producers who receive favorable market incentives to manage their forests for increased yield of wild honey. This leads to reduced tree clearing, adoption of more environmental friendly crops, farming practices that reduce the need to clear new farmland and less bushfires. To accelerate the process, COMACO seeks to add an additional 5000 bar hives for low income families living along the eastern fronteir of the Lundazi National Forest. Bar hives provide optimal honey production, and by engaging our transformed poachers to manufacture these hives, the cost of making a single hive becomes only $18. Help us build a "wall" of defense against tree loss and harmful land use practices... and with markets COMACO promotes, together we can maintain Luangwa's pristine wildness.
