Kelvin Hamusonde Person For the Month

Kelvin Hamusonda has demonstrated good leadership skills and serious commitment towards his work since he joined the WCS/COMACO 2005. Kelvin is a possessor of Certificate in General Agriculture from Monze School of Agriculture in the Southern province of Zambia. He is an extension officer for two chiefdoms namely Mphuka and Mburuma under the Luangwa Office.>> Read More

Isaac Mwanaumo has proved to be a valuable asset for WCS since he joined the organisation in July 2003 as Procurement Officer. He is responsible for the day to day running around and procurement of WCS project equipment and dispatching of goods and services to COMACO regional offices in the Eastern Province.Since the time Isaac joined WCS, he has managed to establish sound relations first, with the rest of WCS/COMACO staff and secondly with the supplier companies. His ability to maintain excellent relationships with suppliers has helped the organisation to acquire goods and services for the organisation without much difficulty.Isaac has also made significant strides in record keeping for WCS/COMACO as he has a special way of keeping his records and ensures that goods and services are not misused..>> Read More

August -Julius Mwale (Bee-keeping Specialist)

Julius Mwale Julius Mwale joined Community Markets for Conservation (COMACO) on March 1st 2004 as a Bee-keeping Specialist. Julius is based in Lundazi, where he is training COMACO producer groups in honey production using modern methods. The professional forester is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive Honey Production Programme in the core area, around the Lundazi National Forest and Lukusuzi National Park. Julius is further responsible for enhancing honey producers’ capacities by strengthening their technical know-how-to by maximizing the use of modern hives. He also strengthens and helps to create new Producer Groups at chiefdom level. To propel the honey production project, Julius ensures that theres proper coordination among producer groups and mobilizes resources for the production of high quality honey and other bee products.>> Read More

July Danny Chishala

Danny ChishalaSelf motivated and Enthusiastic, Danny Chishala joined Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) in January 2004. Initially employed as a Truck Assistant Danny worked with vigor and in no time was promoted to Stores Officer. As Stores Officer, Danny is responsible for stores keeping and shed management. Danny also assists in mobilising the construction and maintenance of COMACO offices in Mfuwe. He has also been in the forefront of the construction and maintenance of Community Trading Centers (CTC) buildings.
In most cases, Danny is required to work over ten hours in a day throughout the week without rest. >> Read More


June Mitchelle Monroe

Michelle Monroe - COMACO Person of the MonthMichelle Monroe, PhD, has proved invaluable to WCS and the COMACO program. Joining in 2005 and working as volunteer, Michelle has helped to manage and administer the COMACO Database. She has also been responsible for redesigning and updating the database to better support analysis of the COMACO program as its activities continue to grow. Through her efforts, the database has been greatly developed, and improved information can now be retrieved.

In her work, Michelle is always in close contact with the COMACO Regional Data Analysts and helps out when they encounter problems with regards to data entry and analysis. Realising that good data management and correct data analysis is important to obtaining accurate results, Michelle organised a two day training workshop for all the Regional Data Analysts. May William Banda (Wildlife Specialist)

William Banda - COMACO Person, MayWorking on secondment from the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA), William Banda aka Willy is the Wildlife Specialist for COMACO. His involvement started in 1988 when he worked as a village scouts under the Administrative Management Design (ADMADE) project. He joined Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) in 2003 as a Wildlife Specialist and is currently based in Lundazi. One of Willy’s first assignments was identifying notorious poachers in the COMACO Core Areas for the Poacher Transformation Program (PTP). To date, he has assisted in locating and reforming over 320 poachers, who surrendered their hunting weapons freely to undergo the transformation training. The PTP has become one of the COMACO program’s greatest achievements and over 800 firearms have been recovered. >> Read More


April Mwangala Mukamba (Data Analyst - Lundazi)

Mwangala MUkambaMwangala Mukamba has worked in the Data and Research section for the past 2 years, where he manages data from the field and helps with the coordinate field extension activities. Based at the Lundazi COMACO office, Mwangala is an important link between the COMACO regional office and WCS/COMACO headquarters in Lusaka.
His duties range from Data management to other IT related issues as computer hardware repair and computer network security. Since his hire in 2005 Mwangala has been involved in a number of field surveys which are undertaken by WCS and each year, Mwangala dedicates his efforts to improving his many different skills ranging from data collection to report writing as well as training field

March Handsen Mseteka (Regional Coordinator for Luangwa)

Handsen MsetekaCOMACO Regional Coordinator for Luangwa/Chongwe districts, Handsen Mseteka has proven to be an exceptional employee, as he continues to prove his abilities and talents.

Planning his regional activities and with a strong team backing him, he has been able to achieve excellent results in these districts since 2005. Handsen coordinates his activities through 6 community trading depots with the help of community trainers, depot managers and extension staff.
Using limited resources, Handsen has developed over 300 producer groups comprising of members who once had no idea of the economic losses that result from degrading natural resources and depleting wildlife populations. >> Read More
