Robert Chilembo COMACO Person

COMACO Person Robert is an Agriculturist and joined WCS/COMACO in 2005 as an extension officer working in the vast areas of Chitungulu, Kazembe, Mapamba, Nabwalya and Zokwe. He is responsible for training farmers in Agricultural skills including better farming methods, animal husbandry and poultry production.

Robert has trained farmers in conservation farming which has helped many households to become food secure and has also helped a great deal in maintaining soil fertility and avoiding the cutting down of more trees in search of virgin land for farming.

In addition, Robert is working closely with game scouts in conserving wildlife. He is directly involved in field patrols, construction and rehabilitation of camps for scouts and facilitating the surrendering of firearms once used by transformed poachers.

Through his tireless efforts to better the lives of the poor rural communities who are dependent on natural resources for their survival, Robert has trained poultry producer groups to rear disease free chickens by conducting workshops in poultry management and conducting vaccination campaigns against Newcastle disease in all his core operational areas.

To date, approximately 2,035 local chickens in Chitungulu and about 4,423 local chickens in Mapamba, Chifunda have been vaccinated against Newcastle disease.

Robert has also contributed to an increase in rice production in Zokwe, Chitungulu and Mapamba. These areas stand currently as the major rice belts for COMACO. A total tonnage of about 80.6 metric tones of rice was purchased in 2006/2007 marketing season from COMACO rice producer groups.

Because of his tireless efforts and dedication towards his work, COMACO is proud to nominate Robert Chilembo as the COMACO person of the month.
