Taste the COMACO Story

Zambians are discovering the great taste and exceptional value for quality when buying IT'S WILD! Prior to COMACO, few had tasted or even known about the aromatic rich flavour of Chama rice.   Today, COMACO sells over 600 tons and by the end of 2010, the volume will exceed 1000 tons as more farmers learn how to grow this variety using rain-fed farming systems.  The IT'S WILD! peanut butter has a delicious taste that is hard to beat and with the first savor, you instantly realize how pure and organic this product is.

When COMACO started back in 2003, few farmers knew how to manage a bee hive.  They only cut down trees and used fire and smoke to harvest wild honey, often causing considerable damage to trees and surrounding forests.  Today, COMACO has helped set up over 6000 hives in Eastern Province and the number is growing while expanding operations on the western side of Luangwa Valley.  The quality of IT'S WILD! honey is obvious with the first taste.  Demand for this product far exceeds supply, which makes COMACO’s honey highly sought after by the Zambian consumer.  As more skills in bee hive management are learned, the product will soon satisfy consumer demand and COMACO will likely venture into the export market.  COMACO’s efforts to expand the honey market and add high value to raw comb honey has begun to reduce local pressure for making charcoal as a source of income. Instead, farmers are now appreciating the value their trees can provide through honey production.

IT'S WILD! products are sold throughout Zambia at the main supermarkets as well as small shops and outlets.  COMACO has a dedicated team of marketing and sales staff with their own delivery trucks, which are often seen traveling the long highways to the next town for distributing IT'S WILD! products.  As more consumers taste and understand the wonderful story of COMACO, they come to realize there is a needy family behind every product being helped with their purchase.   This is the real excitement behind the COMACO approach, helping link consumer demand to a sustainable solution for poverty reduction and conservation.
